The "What's Next?" Campaign

Many students in Nepal complete their secondary education without a clear understanding of what their next steps should be. This uncertainty often leads to poor decision-making regarding further education and career choices. The lack of guidance and exposure to different academic and career paths is a significant barrier to student success. The "What's Next?" campaign was born out of this very problem — a comprehensive initiative designed to bridge the critical gap between grade 10 and the transition to higher secondary education.

The campaign is a comprehensive program that includes counseling sessions, workshops, and hands-on activities designed to help students explore their academic and career options. We begin by assessing students' needs and interests through surveys and assessments. Then, we conduct interactive sessions that cover everything from college selection to skill development for extracurricular activities. Our goal is to help students see beyond the classroom and recognize the broader opportunities available to them. Through games, group discussions, debates, and real-world scenarios, we make learning engaging and impactful — ensuring students walk away with the clarity and confidence they need to make informed decisions about their future.

How the Campaign Works

We run comprehensive surveys across the country to understand the problems students face and their core needs. A need-based assessment test is conducted at each school one or two days before our main session. Based on our existing research, survey data, and assessment results, we develop tailored content for each school. On the day of the session, we begin with a baseline diagnostic test to gauge students' current understanding. The main session follows, packed with interactive presentations, games, and discussions. We conclude with an end-line survey and compare the impact against our diagnostic results. Finally, we validate our impact through interviews with both teachers and students before preparing our follow-up session plan.

Session Methodology

Our sessions employ a dynamic mix of methodologies to keep students engaged and facilitate deep learning. Interactive learning through games, debates, and group discussions encourages active participation. Hands-on experiences allow students to apply what they have learned in practical settings. Every session is carefully tailored based on initial assessments to address the unique needs and interests of each group. Each session typically lasts one and a half hours, with a flexible structure that includes presentations, activities, and open discussions. We initiate sessions with ice-breaker games to set a relaxed atmosphere, followed by group activities and problem-solving exercises that encourage critical and creative thinking. Pre and post-assessments help us measure effectiveness and ensure continuous improvement.

Three Core Pillars

Empower Students: We help students understand the various options available after grade 10, including different streams, courses, and colleges. Our goal is to equip them with the knowledge to make informed decisions about their future education.

College and Course Selection: We present detailed information on how students can choose the best college and course that aligns with their interests, strengths, and career aspirations, including insights into admission processes and scholarship opportunities.

Skill Development for Student Clubs: In addition to academic guidance, we provide students with the skills needed to establish and run successful student clubs, including leadership, organization, communication, and teamwork skills.

Leadership & Personality Development

Leadership is not something that can be taught through lectures alone. At Navigo Nepal, we believe the best way to develop young leaders is by providing real-time experiences that show them how personal growth goes hand in hand with academic progress. Our Leadership and Personality Development sessions are designed to break the mold of traditional education by making learning a fun, engaging, and transformative process. Rather than telling students what leadership is, we let them discover it through play, collaboration, and hands-on activities.

The Beginning: A Request for Change

After the successful implementation of our projects at Shree Chandra Jyoti School in Nuwakot and What's Next: Dhading, we received an unexpected but exciting request. Teachers from Gyanodaya School, impressed by our previous work, reached out to us with a special mission. They wanted us to conduct a personality development session specifically for their Scout students. It was not just about leadership skills — they wanted their students to see how personal growth could go hand in hand with academic progress. We saw this as an incredible opportunity and crafted a session built around interactive games like the Balloon Game and the "How Many F's" game — activities designed to break the ice while embedding deeper lessons about teamwork, communication, and critical thinking.

Learning Through Play

When the day arrived, we stepped into Gyanodaya School with a carefully crafted plan. Rather than beginning with a typical introduction, we immediately involved the students in interactive games. These activities were not just for fun — they were designed to give students a firsthand experience of core leadership skills: teamwork, communication, and critical thinking. By using these activities, the students did not just learn; they applied what they had learned in real-time. As the students participated, we saw them challenge themselves, communicate better with one another, and develop leadership skills that they would carry with them beyond the classroom.

The Impact

The response was remarkable. Around 120 students from Gyanodaya School participated in the session, and their enthusiasm was contagious. Many of them approached us afterward, eager to learn more about leadership and how they could apply these concepts to their studies and personal lives. This success did not go unnoticed. Soon after, Padmodaya School invited us to conduct a similar program for their students. Although space constraints limited the number of participants to 60, the energy and engagement were no less remarkable. Students from both schools have since kept in touch, expressing their excitement for future sessions and a desire to grow not just as students, but as leaders in their communities.

Looking Forward

As we wrapped up the program, we made a significant announcement: a plan to work together with Gyanodaya School to create and manage Eco Clubs for their students. These clubs focus on environmental conservation, combining the leadership skills the students had learned with a cause that would benefit their community and environment. We want the students to take the initiative in these clubs, applying their newfound leadership and personality development skills to real-world challenges. By establishing this collaboration, we aim to create a sustainable impact — giving students the tools to grow as leaders while taking tangible actions to conserve the environment.

School Clubs & Extracurricular Activities

In Nepal, many students develop passions for sports, community engagement, and research during grades 9 and 10. However, as they transition to the +2 phase, the burden of books, exams, and the continuous fear of getting left behind compels them to pause those passions. Navigo Nepal's School Clubs and Extracurricular Activities program is designed to revive that passion and provide students with a platform where they can showcase their talents beyond academics. We help schools understand the importance of extracurricular activities and guide them in forming and managing student clubs that foster leadership, teamwork, and personal development.

What We Do

We guide students on how to form clubs inside their schools and engage in meaningful extracurricular activities. Our sessions cover everything from understanding what student clubs are to developing the practical skills needed to run them successfully. Students learn about leadership, organization, communication, and teamwork — skills that are essential not just for school clubs but for their entire lives. We have helped establish numerous clubs across partner schools, each focused on different areas such as environmental conservation, community service, and academic enrichment.

Beyond just forming clubs, we provide ongoing support and training to ensure these clubs remain active and impactful. Our approach is practical — students learn by doing, and we provide the framework and mentorship to make that possible. The result is a network of student-led initiatives that are making a real difference in schools and communities across Nepal.

Environmental Stewardship

At Navigo Nepal, we are driven by a deep passion for environmental conservation — a necessity we have come to understand through firsthand experience with the impacts of climate change and biodiversity loss. Living in a country where rapid glacial melting threatens both ecosystems and communities, we feel a profound responsibility to act. Our goal is to inspire future generations to recognize environmental stewardship as a noble cause they can champion for long-term impact. We focus on empowering youth to engage with environmental issues by providing hands-on opportunities that connect them with the natural world, equipping students with the knowledge and tools to meet environmental challenges head-on.

World Environment Day

On June 5th, World Environment Day, Navigo Nepal led a series of environmental awareness events in a community school in Kathmandu Metropolitan City. The activities included bottle gardening projects where students repurposed plastic bottles to create gardens, demonstrating sustainable practices in a practical and engaging way. Environmental-themed face painting sessions allowed students to reflect on environmental concerns through creative expression. A painting exhibition paired with informative pamphlets focused on environmental issues was showcased, and students, teachers, and community members participated in a rally to raise awareness about environmental concerns and actions needed. Interactive educational sessions for children discussed the environmental challenges we face and the steps children can take to contribute to positive change. These events garnered widespread attention, being featured on the official social media pages of both UNICEF Nepal and USAID Clean Air, further amplifying the impact of our work.

Collaboration with AIESEC

Navigo Nepal received an incredible opportunity to collaborate with AIESEC, a global organization, on their program focused on Sustainable Development Goals. Members of Navigo Nepal were distributed across different schools in Kathmandu alongside other AIESEC volunteers. SDG 13 — Climate Action was chosen to make young students aware of the climate change caused by human activity and how they can reduce it through their efforts at home and school. Before visiting the schools, orientation sessions were conducted by AIESEC heads to guide event goers on how to carry out the program. The sessions introduced concepts of the SDGs and the United Nations, climate change and how organizations like AIESEC are addressing the issue worldwide. Students shared creative ideas like making baskets from waste plastic and reusing waste materials, demonstrating their willingness to engage with environmental solutions.

The collaboration reached multiple schools including Steiner Academy, Mount SEB School, Everest School, NJSN High School, Navjyoti School, and Asha Mandir School, engaging hundreds of students in meaningful environmental education and action.

Connect Tech to Veda

During our visit to Brahmeshwor Gurukul, we initially arrived as guests. However, when we noticed that despite having all the computer resources they needed, no one was using them, we saw an opportunity. This observation sparked our "Connect Tech to Veda" project — an initiative designed to bridge the gap between traditional knowledge and modern technology. We provided students with hands-on training on how to use computers, introduced them to the wonders of Artificial Intelligence, and explored how these technologies can be applied in real life.

Our major objective is to connect students with spirituality that has been part of our culture for centuries, while simultaneously equipping them with cutting-edge technological skills. We are still in the process of researching and developing this project, working on innovative ways to connect Veda with technology more intuitively. The vision is to create a learning experience where students can appreciate their cultural heritage while embracing the tools of the future — understanding that tradition and innovation are not opposing forces, but complementary pathways to knowledge and growth.

Past Projects Log

A chronological record of every initiative Navigo Nepal has undertaken, from our founding to the present day.

January 2024

Project Planning & Surveys

Navigo Nepal began with comprehensive project planning and the first preliminary survey. A qualitative survey was conducted on more than 100 students across different districts and schools to understand the major problems they face in learning. The survey was done online through Zoom calls, ensuring every student's ideas were recorded. A quantitative survey was also conducted at specific schools to learn about the state of extracurricular activities. These surveys gave us a clear picture of what we needed to provide during our sessions.

January – March 2024

Content Development

Based on the survey insights, we developed presentation content using Canva and MS PowerPoint. Our presentations incorporated pictures, graphs, games, videos, and animations with minimal text to make them visually appealing and engaging. We refined our materials through multiple iterations, incorporating feedback from students. The slides included crucial information about options after 10th grade, different streams, courses, and colleges, along with games like puzzles and quizzes, brain teasers, and activities to spark critical thinking.

What's Next: Nuwakot

Our first official program was conducted at Shree Chandra Jyoti School in Pipaltar, Nuwakot. We chose this small government school to understand the quality of academics and extracurricular resources in rural areas. In total, 100 students from grades 9 and 10 received our session. The presentation covered options after 10th grade, including different streams, courses, and colleges. We divided the session into two major parts: one focused on navigating paths after grade 10, and the other on extracurricular activities such as student clubs, which the students were completely unaware of. The session was a major success, giving us the kickstart we needed to expand our reach.
